Mangaluru, Karnataka / Malappuram, Kerala: The development of a modern physiotherapy career can extend beyond clinical practice to include research, evidence synthesis, scientific communication and continuing professional education. Farseen Mohammed P, a specialist physiotherapist in neurosciences and clinical researcher, has been building his professional profile across these areas.

With postgraduate specialization in neurosciences and experience in neurological rehabilitation, Farseen has developed research interests in stroke rehabilitation, Parkinson’s disease, therapeutic exercise and evidence-based physiotherapy.

From Physiotherapy Education to Research

Farseen began his professional education with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) from the Co-operative Institute of Health Sciences, Thalassery, affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences.

He later pursued a Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) in Neurosciences at Yenepoya Physiotherapy College, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru.

The postgraduate program provided specialized academic and clinical exposure in neurophysiotherapy and neurorehabilitation.

His professional development subsequently expanded into clinical research and evidence synthesis.

Clinical Experience in Neurosciences

During his postgraduate clinical training at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru, Farseen gained exposure to neurological rehabilitation involving conditions including stroke, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, Guillain–Barré syndrome and spinal cord disorders.

His training included approaches such as Neurodevelopmental Treatment, Motor Relearning Programme and task-oriented training.

This clinical exposure provided a practical foundation for his developing research interests.

Postgraduate Research on Stroke Rehabilitation

Farseen’s postgraduate dissertation marked an important step in his research development.

His research was titled:

“Effect of Eccentric Versus Concentric Strengthening on Functional Mobility in Subacute Stroke Patients: A Randomized Parallel-Group Comparative Study.”

The project examined strengthening approaches and their relationship with functional mobility in subacute stroke patients.

The research topic became part of a continuing academic interest in therapeutic exercise and stroke rehabilitation.

Expanding Into Evidence Synthesis

Farseen has developed research interests beyond individual clinical studies.

His portfolio includes systematic reviews and scoping reviews, with research questions covering neurological rehabilitation, therapeutic exercise and other health-related areas.

One ongoing systematic review examines the effectiveness of eccentric strengthening interventions on functional outcomes in adults after stroke.

He has also worked on research involving exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation and exercise interventions related to metabolic health.

Published Research in Parkinson’s Disease

A significant milestone in his developing research career came with his contribution to a published scoping review on Parkinson’s disease.

The paper, “Timing of Dopaminergic Medication Relative to Physiotherapy Delivery in Adults with Parkinson’s Disease: A Scoping Review,” was published in the International Journal of Drug Delivery Technology in 2026.

Farseen is listed as the second author and corresponding author.

The research examines the available literature concerning the timing of dopaminergic medication in relation to physiotherapy delivery for adults with Parkinson’s disease.

Developing Research Methodology Skills

A clinical researcher needs skills not only in physiotherapy but also in research methodology.

Farseen has pursued additional training in systematic review and meta-analysis, Good Clinical Practice and health science research and publication.

In August 2026, he participated in a five-day hands-on international-level workshop on systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by IIRA, Mumbai.

This training complements his ongoing involvement in evidence synthesis and research projects.

Scientific Presentation and Recognition

Farseen has also gained experience presenting research to professional audiences.

At Mangalore PhysioCon 2026, he presented his postgraduate research concerning eccentric versus concentric strengthening and functional mobility in subacute stroke patients.

At SYNERGOS 2026, he presented a systematic review on eccentric strengthening interventions in stroke rehabilitation.

His presentation received the First Prize in the Postgraduate Oral Paper Presentation category.

The achievement represents one of the notable milestones in his academic development.

Continuing Professional Development

Farseen’s development as a clinical researcher has taken place alongside continuing professional education.

His training and professional activities have included areas such as:

  • Systematic review and meta-analysis
  • Good Clinical Practice
  • Stroke management
  • Neurodevelopmental Treatment
  • Motor Relearning Programme
  • Health science research
  • Scientific publication
  • Therapeutic exercise

He also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Nutrition in 2025, adding another qualification to his physiotherapy background.

Academic Participation Beyond Research Papers

Farseen has participated in academic activities beyond research publications and presentations.

He served as an organizing member of the Scientific Committee for Mangalore PhysioCon 2026.

He was also involved in an Institution’s Innovation Council awareness workshop at Yenepoya Physiotherapy College focused on entrepreneurship and innovation as a career opportunity.

Such activities have provided additional exposure to academic organization, innovation and professional collaboration.

Sharing Knowledge Through Professional Education

In September 2026, Farseen served as a resource person at a CME program for nursing professionals at St. Joseph’s Mission Hospital, Anchal, Kerala.

His session was titled “Life After Discharge: Physiotherapy-Guided Secondary Prevention and Community Reintegration.”

The session reflects another dimension of his professional development—communicating rehabilitation-related knowledge to healthcare professionals.

A Multidisciplinary Perspective

Farseen’s academic interests cover several connected areas of healthcare.

While neurophysiotherapy and neurorehabilitation remain central to his professional specialization, his research interests also include cardiac rehabilitation, metabolic health, nutrition and therapeutic exercise.

This broad perspective allows his professional profile to extend beyond a single rehabilitation condition.

The Development of an Academic Career

Farseen Mohammed P’s journey illustrates the gradual development of a clinical researcher through formal education, clinical exposure, research projects and continuing professional development.

His path from undergraduate physiotherapy education to postgraduate specialization in neurosciences has been accompanied by increasing involvement in clinical research and evidence synthesis.

His published Parkinson’s disease research, stroke rehabilitation studies, scientific presentations and ongoing research projects represent different stages of this development.

Looking Toward Continued Research

As an early-career clinical researcher, Farseen continues to develop his interests in neurorehabilitation, therapeutic exercise and evidence-based physiotherapy.

His combination of clinical training and research methodology provides a foundation for continued academic work in rehabilitation sciences.

His professional journey demonstrates how a physiotherapist can progressively build research capabilities alongside clinical specialization, contributing to the growing emphasis on evidence-informed rehabilitation practice.
